Welcome to Driven to Survive!
I began working on this website after completing treatment for breast cancer. Over the course of that year, I had two surgeries, five months of chemo, and six weeks of radiation. I am currently on maintenance with tamoxifen, and just completed two more surgeries to repair all the damage from my earlier treatments.
Throughout my journey, I have learned so much. I am horrified at how hard it is to find digestible information when you are starting out with a diagnosis. The doctors can give you conflicting advice, and researching on the internet is confusing and scary.
I have also been concerned about the lack of information for dealing with the aftermath of treatment. The mental and physical challenges can last years, if not forever. And while there are unlimited resources, it is sometimes difficult to hone in on what you need.
This is why we created this website. We have scoured the internet for useful resources that are to the point, and provide a roadmap to navigate the cancer highway. This is in no way intended to take the place of your doctor’s advice, but merely to help you do research on your own so that you can have better discussions with all of your medical providers. It is the guide I wanted and could not find when I started my journey.
Good luck and pixie dust to all of you, no matter where you are in journey. We are all in this together. Please feel free to reach out with suggestions or questions on our feedback page. You are part of our community.
Your pink sister,
Shelley
